Before coming to VMI in fall 2015, Mr. Shihab taught Arabic language and culture at UVA, where he developed a course entitled The Art of Arabic Calligraphy based on his specialty as an Arabic calligrapher.
In 2015, he earned his MFA in poetry from the University of Mississippi, where he continued to teach creative writing and composition until he joined VMIs English faculty in 2017.
